Nitin Nabin Becomes National President of Bharatiya Janata Party
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) working president Nitin Nabin has been elected as the new national president of the party.
Party’s National Returning Officer Dr. K Laxman on Tuesday announced Mr Nabin’s appointment as the party president and handed him over the certificate of election on Sangathan Parv at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.
Mr Nabin was felicitated by Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Nitin Gadkari.
Addressing the gathering, newly elected BJP National President Nitin Nabin expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the opportunity to reach the highest position in the party. He also thanked other senior BJP leaders for electing him as the party President.
Mr Nabin also remembered the party’s former national presidents and greeted the former presidents present on the occasion. He also recalled his past journey from becoming an MLA for the first time in 2006. Mr Nabin described the day as a moment of resolve. He said that 140 crore people of the country are working tirelessly to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed country.
Mr Nabin is the youngest national President in the party’s history and the first BJP leader from Bihar to be appointed to the post. He currently represents the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna district and holds the Road Construction portfolio in the Nitish Kumar led Bihar government.
With nearly two decades of organisational experience, Mr Nabin held several key roles within the party, including Bihar President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and BJP’s election in-charge for Chhattisgarh.
Fake Input Tax Credit Scam: ED Conducts Searches in Jharkhand, Manipur, Kolkata
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting search operations across Jharkhand, Manipur and Kolkata in connection with a massive fake Input Tax Credit scam worth around 658 crore rupees.
According to the ED, the case involves firms accused of generating and availing fraudulent ITC through fake invoices without any actual supply of goods or services. The probe agency said that such bogus claims, apart from draining the exchequer, are often tied to money laundering and shell company networks. Further investigation is in progress.
Govt Amends Central Motor Vehicles Rules to Strengthen User Fee Payments Compliance
The Centre has notified the Central Motor Vehicles (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026, to strengthen compliance towards user fee payment at the toll plazas on National Highways.
These amendments are aimed at improving user fee compliance, enhancing the efficiency of Electronic Toll Collection and discouraging user fee evasion on National Highways.
The Road Transport and Highways Ministry said these amendments will help NHAI in fostering transparent and technology-driven tolling systems for sustained development and maintenance of the National Highway network across the country.
As per the provisions, a no-objection certificate (NOC) for transfer of ownership or transfer of a vehicle from one State to another will not be granted until any unpaid user fee is cleared. In addition, for commercial vehicles seeking a National Permit, the amended rules make it mandatory that the vehicle must not have any unpaid user fees.
Future of AI Will be Shaped by Smaller, Efficient Models: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be shaped by smaller, efficient models rather than extremely large systems.
He made these remarks during a private media interview on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Minister noted that nearly 95 per cent of AI work globally is currently handled by small models, a trend that underpins India’s strategy of developing affordable and application-focused AI solutions.
Mr Vaishnaw said the 12 AI models being built in India, ranging from 50 billion to 120 billion parameters, are capable of meeting the AI needs of enterprises across sectors.
He outlined India’s progress across the AI value chain, including model development, semiconductor manufacturing, infrastructure and energy.
The Union Minister said the country’s semiconductor programme has advanced significantly, with construction underway at 10 plants, three of which have already begun pilot production.
He noted that four more plants are expected to enter pilot and commercial production this year.
Highlighting emerging innovations such as sound-to-sound AI, Mr Vaishnaw said such innovations have the potential to redefine global AI applications. The Minister also expressed confidence that India would be among the leading innovators, pointing to the country’s vibrant startup ecosystem, which now includes over 2 lakh startups and ranks among the top three globally.
Maharashtra Signs 19 MoUs Worth 14.50 Lakh Crore at World Economic Forum in Davos
Maharashtra has signed 19 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), worth an unprecedented 14.50 lakh crore rupees, on the very first day of the World Economic Forum, being held at Davos.
The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant, reinforcing Mr Fadnavis’ assertion that Maharashtra is the Gateway of India for industry and investment.
According to an official statement, these investments span across green energy, food processing, steel manufacturing, IT-ITES, data centres, EV-automobile, shipbuilding and digital infrastructure sectors and will lead to the creation of 15 lakh job opportunities.
Over the next two days in Davos, MoUs are expected in sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Digital Infrastructure, FinTech, Logistics, Infrastructure, Shipbuilding, EVs and Renewable Energy.
India to Become Developed Nation in 25 Years By Prioritising Healthcare: Anupriya Patel
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel on Tuesday said that India is moving ambitiously towards becoming a developed nation over the next 25 years by placing healthcare at the heart of its journey.
Delivering the convocation address at the 14th Convocation Ceremony of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, the Minister said, the Modi Government is making sustained efforts to realise the goal of universal health care.
Highlighting the National Health Policy, Ms Anupriya Patel said the policy aims to bring a paradigm shift from sick care to wellness by focusing on preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative healthcare.
Civil Aviation Minister Naidu Holds Talks with Zurich Airport Leadership
Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu held a productive discussion in Zurich with the leadership of Zurich Airport Ltd., focusing on India’s rapidly evolving aviation sector.
The discussions with Lukas Brosi, CEO, and Daniel Bircher, MD of Zurich Airport International AG, centered on the development and operationalisation of Jewar International Airport, global aviation trends, and emerging investment opportunities in India.
Highlighting India’s aviation growth story, the Minister said the country continues to attract strong global interest.
He expressed optimism for deeper collaboration in airport infrastructure, operational excellence, and long-term partnerships, supporting India’s vision of world-class aviation facilities for the future.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Pushes AI Adoption in Legislatures
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Tuesday addressed the 86th All India Presiding Officers Conference in Lucknow, emphasising AI’s role in enhancing legislative efficiency while stressing the need for contextual training data and human oversight.
Alongside laying out various practical cases and ways to implement AI in Parliament, he called for more synergy between State Legislatues and the Parliament.
“This would ensure that the institutional knowledge of legislatures can be used effectively for both, the Parliament as well as the State Legislatures.”
Mr. Harivansh called for a hybrid mechanism where humans still retain oversight over the training and nature of output given by AI.
“Parliamentary AI must be trained within Parliament, fed with carefully curated parliamentary data.”
He explained how Parliament has been testing AI-enabled transcription, simultaneous interpretation to provide services in different languages.
At present, Members of Parliament can access the House Business and other administrative documents in a language of their choice. This has been executed using AI.
Further, the Deputy Chairman explained how routine administrative tasks such scrutiny of admissibility of Questions for Question Hour, searching past precedents and rulings can be executed using AI.
He also called for more awareness and orientation sessions for the staff as well as legislators to execute their respective roles efficiently.
The conference also discussed legislator accountability and capacity building. It commenced on January 19 with UP Governor Anandiben Patel and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla present.
Central Sanskrit University Gifts 233-Year-Old Ramayana Manuscript to Ayodhya Museum
Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, presented a rare 233-year-old Sanskrit manuscript of Vālmīkirāmāyaṇam with Tattvadīpikāṭīkā to Nripendra Misra, Chairman of Prime Ministers Museum and Library Executive Council at Teen Murti.
The 1792 CE manuscript authored by Ādi Kavi Vālmīki with Maheshvara Tīrtha commentary in Devanāgarī script comprises five kāṇḍas—Bālakāṇḍa, Araṇyakāṇḍa, Kiṣkindhākāṇḍa, Sundarakāṇḍa, and Yuddhakāṇḍa—representing preserved textual tradition of the epic.
Previously loaned to Rashtrapati Bhavan, it has been permanently gifted to Antarrashtriya Ram Katha Sangrahalaya (International Ram Katha Museum) in Ayodhya, supporting its development as global Rāmāyaṇa heritage centre.
Nripendra Misra called the donation a landmark moment for Ram devotees and Ayodhya temple complex.
Over 1 lakh Artisans Receive Benefits from One Station One Product Scheme of Indian Railways
The Indian Railways’ One Station One Product OSOP scheme has emerged as a major initiative for promoting local craftsmanship and generating sustainable livelihoods across the country.
The Ministry of Railways stated that the OSOP scheme has expanded to over 2,000 railway stations, benefiting more than 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers, and small producers by providing them with direct market access to millions of railway passengers every day.
It also said that by integrating commerce with culture, the Railways has transformed stations into centres of local enterprise.
The One Station One Product initiative reflects the spirit of Vocal for Local by empowering communities and preserving India’s rich traditional crafts. By linking local heritage with the national railway network, the initiative has strengthened inclusive economic growth while enhancing the passenger experience.
A wide range of region-specific products is being sold under the scheme, including handmade pottery and bamboo crafts from the Northeast, as well as spices, handloom items, handicrafts, and traditional sweets from various parts of the country.
