PM Modi to Flag Off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on February 22, 2026, to flag off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station.

Highlights

PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the entire 82 km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor and inaugurate remaining sections of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS): 5 km Sarai Kale Khan–New Ashok Nagar (Delhi) and 21 km Meerut South–Modipuram (UP).

Namo Bharat has design speed of 180 kmph, connecting Delhi with Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, Meerut at faster pace.

Sarai Kale Khan (originating station) is one of four Namo Bharat stations commissioned. It’s a multi-modal hub linking Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, Ring Road.

Other Namo Bharat Stations: Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, Modipuram (Meerut).

PM Modi will inaugurate Meerut Metro (Meerut South–Modipuram) on same infrastructure as Namo Bharat — first-of-its-kind in India.

Meerut Metro will beIndia’s fastest at 120 kmph max operational speed, covering stretch in 30 minutes with stops.

Seamless Namo Bharat–Meerut Metro integration enables high-speed intercity + swift intra-city travel, decongesting roads, cutting vehicular CO2 emissions.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and dedicate to the nation various development projects worth around Rs 12,930 crore in Meerut. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

PM To Participate In Groundbreaking Ceremony Of HCL–Foxconn JV Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of the HCL-Foxconn Joint Venture project - India Chip Pvt. Ltd. - in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Uttar Pradesh, on February 21, 2026, at around 5 PM via video conferencing. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion.

This Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at YEIDA will be set up by India Chip Pvt. Ltd. under the Modified Scheme for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP), with a total investment of over Rs 3,700 crore.

It is expected to play a crucial role in supporting key sectors such as mobiles phones, tablet, laptop, automotive, consumer electronics and other devices.

Through this initiative, India’s semiconductor ecosystem will receive a major boost, fostering innovation, skill development, and technology transfer. The facility is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities to engineers, technicians, and professionals, while catalysing growth in ancillary industries.

Prime Minister Meets World Leaders, UN Secretary General

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral meetings with world leaders and United Nations Secretary General in New Delhi on Friday.

Mauritius PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

The two leaders reviewed the progress of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership and its multifaceted engagement across trade and investment, maritime security, health, education and digital cooperation. Recognising the growing relevance of emerging technologies, they exchanged views on collaboration in Artificial Intelligence and innovation-led sectors to advance inclusive and sustainable development.

The leaders reviewed the implementation of the Special Economic Package extended by India in support of Mauritius’ development priorities. Prime Minister Modi underscored that Mauritius stands as a role model for India’s development partnership, reflecting mutual trust and shared commitment to progress.

The two Prime Ministers reaffirmed the enduring importance of the India–Mauritius partnership under India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and Neighbourhood First policy, emphasising its contribution to mutual prosperity and advancing the shared priorities of the Global South.

The leaders agreed to continue working closely to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.

Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein Prince Alois.

External Affairs Ministry said that during the meeting both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in various areas. They agreed to promote deeper collaboration between India and Liechtenstein particularly in the fields of trade, investment, and emerging technologies, including AI, innovation and skill development, building on the momentum of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said they discussed the strong potential of economic linkages between both nations, particularly after the India-EFTA and cooperation in areas such as innovation, technology, and skilling, among others.

Slovak President

The Prime Minister also held a bilateral meeting with President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, on the sidelines of the summit. They reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in areas including trade and investment, digital technologies, defence, space, energy, culture and people-to-people linkages. Both leaders welcomed the fresh momentum in ties generated by the adoption of the landmark India-EU FTA and the India-EU Joint Comprehensive Strategic Agenda 2030. The leaders agreed to further strengthen India- Slovak Republic relations for mutual benefit especially in the digital sector.

Sri Lankan President

Prime Minister Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the Summit. In a social media post, Mr. Modi said they discussed avenues of cooperation in areas such as energy, connectivity, infrastructure, healthcare, skilling, culture, blue economy and more. The leaders also took stock of the progress in India-Sri Lanka relations in recent times.

United Nations Secretary General

During the meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Prime Minister Modi, they exchanged perspectives on UN reforms, especially giving greater voice to the Global South.

The leaders also talked about making AI all inclusive and how the UN can play a constructive role in this regard.

PM Modi reiterated India’s support towards any effort aimed at harnessing AI for a better planet.

PM Modi Meets AI, Deeptech Startup CEOs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roundtable with CEOs of AI and deeptech startups at Seva Teerth.

The startups participating in the roundtable are tackling population-scale challenges across key sectors. In healthcare, they are using AI for advanced diagnostics, gene therapy, and efficient patient record management to extend quality care to the last mile.

Prime Minister congratulated innovators for taking bold risks and building impactful solutions. He discussed the potential of harnessing AI technology in various sectors like in agriculture and environmental protection, including monitoring crop productivity and fertilizer usage to safeguard soil health.

Stressing the importance of promoting Indian languages and culture, PM Modi called for expanding our AI tools for higher education in mother tongue.

The Prime Minister underscored the need for strong data governance, cautioned against misinformation, and urged the development of solutions tailored to India’s needs.

Referring to UPI as a model of simple and scalable digital innovation, he expressed confidence in Indian companies and encouraged trust in domestic products. He also spoke about expanding private participation in the space sector and noted strong investor interest in Indian startups.

The AI startups praised India’s sustained push to strengthen its artificial intelligence ecosystem. They highlighted the sector’s rapid expansion and immense untapped potential, noting that the global momentum of AI innovation and deployment is increasingly shifting towards India.

OpenAI CEO Meets Prime Minister Modi

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that India is making immense strides in AI and is poised to become a global hub for talent and innovation.

The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the international community to invest in India’s talented youth, adding vigour to this transformative sector.

Qualcomm CEO Meets PM Modi

President & CEO of Qualcomm Inc., Cristiano R. Amon met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s vibrant ecosystem of innovators and StartUps. They also talked about working closely in the world of semiconductors and chip manufacturing.

In a post on X, PM Modi said:

PM Condoles Passing Of Noted Bengali Author

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the passing of Noted Bengali Author Mani Shankar Mukhopadhyay.

In a post on X, PM Modi said: “Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Mani Shankar Mukhopadhyay Ji, fondly known as Shankar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on how infinite knowledge remains undiminished even when shared or expanded, while retaining its fullness.

He added that learning and generating new outputs from existing knowledge creates endless new possibilities and innovations while the core intelligence remains same.

Invoking the timeless wisdom of the Isha Upanishad, the PM quoted the sacred Sanskrit verse:

PM Condoles Passing Of Shillong MP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the passing of Lok Sabha MP from Shillong, Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon.

In a post on X, PM Modi said:
