Sufficient Stock Of Food Grains In Country Amid West Asia Conflict: Govt

The Union Government today assured that there is sufficient stock of food grains in the country amid the West Asian conflict. 

Addressing the Inter-Ministerial Briefing on Recent Developments in West Asia in New Delhi, Additional Secretary for the Department of Consumer Affairs Anupam Mishra said that there is no unusual volatility in the prices of essential commodities. 

He said that the production of pulses in the country is higher than in the previous year. Mr Mishra said that the government is monitoring the prices and supply of commodities.

Joint Secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, C. Shikha, said that the country has an adequate buffer stock of both wheat and rice. She informed that around 602 Lakh Metric Tonne of food stocks are available in the country. 

She stated that domestic availability of edible oil is stable despite global uncertainties. She mentioned that imports of edible oil from major partners have remained consistent.
