New Delhi, July 20, 2026:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed hope that the Monsoon Session of Parliament would witness productive discussions that strengthen India's development journey, while urging Members of Parliament to ensure meaningful debates guided by facts and logic rather than disruptions.
Addressing the media before the commencement of the Monsoon Session at Parliament House, the Prime Minister said that just as a proactive monsoon benefits the country, a productive Parliament contributes to national welfare.
The Prime Minister said,
"Whether it is the monsoon or the Monsoon Session, when both are
proactive, they become highly productive and contribute to the welfare of the
nation. That is why we pray that the monsoon remains proactive and the Monsoon
Session remains productive."
Calling for the smooth functioning of Parliament, the Prime Minister said meaningful discussions and a collective resolve to take the country forward were the need of the hour. He added that this was also the aspiration of India's youth, who were ambitious and wanted the nation to continue progressing.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Parliament should function through constructive debate based on facts and logic rather than disruptions. He said every viewpoint should be heard with respect and expressed confidence that the session would contribute meaningfully to India's development journey.
Highlighting the country's achievements over the past month, PM Modi said India had witnessed several milestones that had filled every Indian with pride at the national, international and even space levels.
Referring to India's growing presence in space, he recalled that an Indian citizen had reached the International Space Station before last year's Monsoon Session and noted that the recent achievement of private space start-up Skyroot marked another historic milestone. He said a team with an average age of just 28 had opened a new chapter in India's private space sector, demonstrating that the aspirations and capabilities of India's youth are limitless.
The Prime Minister said these achievements reflected the impact of the government's reform-driven policies, which had created an environment where young innovators could take bold initiatives and succeed.
He also highlighted recent national achievements, including the inauguration of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, the country's third semiconductor plant and the launch of the world's longest and most powerful green hydrogen train. He credited scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and workers for these accomplishments.
Speaking about the global situation, Prime Minister Modi said the conflict in West Asia had posed a major challenge for India, which depends on imports to meet its energy needs. Despite disruptions in the supply chains of petroleum products, LPG, fertilisers and chemicals, he noted that India had continued to remain the world's fastest-growing major economy, reflecting the country's strength and determination.
