The Ministry of Home Affairs has notified the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as Vice President of India through Gazette Notification S.O.3354(E) dated July 22, 2025.
The Election Commission of India, empowered by Article 324 of the Constitution, is mandated to conduct the election to the office of the Vice President of India, said a PIB press release.
Legal Framework and Preparations
The election to the office of the Vice President is governed by The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952 and the associated rules, namely The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974.
The Election Commission of India has already initiated the preparatory activities related to the Vice-Presidential Elections, 2025.
Pre-Announcement Activities Underway
Key pre-announcement activities for the election process have commenced. The schedule for the Vice Presidential election will be announced once preparatory formalities conclude.
