New Delhi, June 28, 2025:

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today said that the Congress turned India into an open jail in 1975.

She was addressing a Mock Parliament session organised by the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha at Maharashtra Sadan here to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency.

She paid tribute to the democratic values that were crushed during the Emergency and called for women to lead from the front in nation building.

“In 1975, the Congress government turned the entire nation into an open jail just to save one family’s rule. Thousands of patriots were jailed without trial. Those who talk about the Constitution today must remember that the deepest blow to India’s soul was struck by Congress’ dictatorship,” said CM Gupta.

She accused the then Congress government of “murdering the Constitution” by suppressing the freedom of speech, justice, and democratic values.

Highlighting women-centric initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Gupta said, “Women today are becoming the strength of the nation. From housing and toilets to gas connections and safe drinking water, basic amenities have empowered women across the country.”

She also cited landmark reforms such as the abolition of triple talaq and the 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies as proof of the government’s commitment to gender equality.

“It’s time we women not only become aware but also take responsibility and lead the way in nation building,” she added.

The event was attended by many inspiring women leaders, including Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha President Richa Pandey.
