June 13, 2025, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited Ahmedabad to assess the situation following the tragic Air India plane crash. He inspected the crash site in Meghaninagar, met the injured at Civil Hospital, and later conducted a high-level review meeting at Ahmedabad Airport.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and other top officials. The leaders discussed ongoing rescue, medical, and investigation efforts.
After assessing the situation on the ground, the Prime Minister shared updates and his remarks through posts on social media platform 'X '. PM Modi said, "Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy."
In an another post on 'X' Prime minister Narendra Modi said, "We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti."
At least 241 people were killed after an Air India flight crashed near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, in one of India’s worst aviation disasters.
The 787 dreamliner, bound for London's Gatwick Airport, took off at 1:38 pm local time and crashed just 5 minutes after take off in a residential area.
The plane crashed onto a medical college hostel during lunch hour. Air India said 241 people onboard the flight died, and the sole survivor - a British national of Indian origin - is in hospital. He was in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit.
