New Delhi, July 13, 2025:
The Centre has directed all States and Union Territories to take immediate and strict action against counterfeit and substandard fertilizers.
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to all Chief Ministers, urging strong measures to curb the sale of fake fertilizers, black marketing of subsidized fertilizers, and illegal practices like forced tagging.
Highlighting that agriculture is the backbone of India’s economy, Mr. Chouhan emphasized the need to ensure timely access to quality fertilizers at affordable prices to protect farmers' incomes.
He reiterated that States are responsible for ensuring the availability of fertilizers at the right places and times.
The Minister called for stringent legal action, including license cancellations and FIRs, against those involved in these illegal activities.
Mr. Chouhan urged States to launch a statewide campaign to eliminate fake and substandard agricultural inputs and to ensure regular monitoring for long-term, effective results in the farmers’ interest.
