Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference on August 7 at ICAR PUSA, New Delhi, and will address the gathering on the occasion.
The conference, themed “Evergreen Revolution, The Pathway to Biohappiness,” reflects Professor Swaminathan’s lifelong commitment to ensuring food for all.
The event will convene scientists, policymakers, development professionals, and stakeholders to deliberate on the principles of the 'Evergreen Revolution.'
Discussion topics include sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources, sustainable agriculture for food and nutrition security, strengthening climate resilience, using appropriate technologies for equitable livelihoods, and greater engagement of youth, women, and marginalized communities.
To honour Professor Swaminathan's legacy, the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) will launch the M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace.
The Prime Minister will confer the first award, which will recognize individuals from developing countries for outstanding work in improving food security and advancing climate justice, equity, and peace for vulnerable and marginalized communities through research, policy, grassroots engagement, or capacity building.
