India Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
India on Friday paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 78th death anniversary, recalling his timeless ideals of truth, non-violence and peace that continue to guide the nation. President Droupadi Murmu attended the Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha, an all-religious prayer meeting organised at Rajghat in the national capital, and offered floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also visited Rajghat and paid floral tributes, reaffirming the country’s commitment to Gandhian principles of peace, unity and social harmony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, honouring his pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and his enduring moral leadership.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that revered Bapu united a nation divided by language, region, and caste, giving the freedom movement its vast expanse.
India-AI Impact Summit 2026 Gets Phenomenal Global Response: Vaishnaw
The India-AI Impact Summit 2026 will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from 16th to 20th February this year. The summit will be the first global AI summit to be hosted in the Global South. The objective of the Summit is to enable global democratisation of Artificial Intelligence and bridge the AI divide, as well as support the development of indigenous and local AI solutions.
It will also focus on the development of AI for Good solutions across healthcare, agriculture and governance, among others and aligning global standards and models of AI governance and Innovation to the needs of the developing world.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the India AI Impact Summit has received a phenomenal response from across the world and is shaping up to be the biggest AI summit so far globally.
He referred to the recent interactions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with industry leaders, developers and innovators working across the AI value chain. The Minister stated that leading IT companies have developed more than 200 focused, sector-specific AI models, which are proposed to be launched during the AI Impact Summit.
Mr Vaishnaw said that the Summit will be based on seven themes, including Human Capital, Inclusion for Social Empowerment, Safe and Trusted AI, Resilience, Innovation, and Efficiency, Democratizing AI Resources and AI for Economic Growth and Social Good.
He informed that so far 15 Heads of State/Government have confirmed their participation in the event. He said that over 100 global leaders, including CEOs, are also participating in the upcoming Summit.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, MeitY S. Krishnan said that the central objective of the India AI Impact Summit is to advance the democratisation of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, to ensure that its benefits reach a wide cross-section of society.
Piyush Goyal Highlights India’s Robust Macroeconomic Fundamentals
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted the country’s robust macroeconomic fundamentals and its emergence as one of the world’s largest economies.
He was addressing the World Forum of Accountants 2.0, organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in Greater Noida on Friday.
Mr. Goyal said India is on track to become the third-largest economy well ahead of earlier projections, crediting the reforms undertaken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.
As a proud Chartered Accountant, Piyush Goyal expressed confidence in India’s strong position amid global volatility.
Despite turbulence in global trade markets, India’s exports of goods and services continue to grow, even in the current year, the Minister said.
India has signed eight free trade agreements in four years, unlocking global opportunities for talent and trade, Mr. Goyal said, adding that India will soon conclude a free trade agreement with Chile, which will help secure access to critical minerals.
The three-day global event, being held from January 30 to February 1, celebrates the evolution of the chartered accountancy profession from nation-building to global collaboration.
Supreme Court Rules Menstrual Health Fundamental Right Under Constitution
The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the right to menstrual hygiene is an integral part of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The Apex court issued a series of binding directions to states and Union Territories and schools to ensure dignity, health and equality for girls and women.
A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan directed all states and Union Territories to ensure that every school provides biodegradable sanitary napkins free of cost to adolescent girls.
The bench observed that lack of basic facilities and stigma around menstruation directly affects girls’ health, education and privacy. The court further ordered authorities to ensure that schools are equipped with functional and hygienic gender-segregated toilets.
The Court directed the pan-India implementation of the Union’s national policy, ‘Menstrual Hygiene Policy for School-going Girls’ in schools for adolescent girl children from Classes 6th-12th.
The top court was hearing a plea seeking free sanitary pads and adequate sanitation facilities for schoolgirls. The apex body made it clear that the compliance would be mandatory for both government and private institutions.
It warned that private schools could face derecognition if they fail to provide separate toilets for girls and boys or do not ensure access to free sanitary pads for students.
Sitharaman To Interact With College Students After Union Budget 2026-27
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will interact with around thirty college students from different regions of the country after the presentation of the Union Budget 2026-27.
As part of this initiative, the college students will also get to witness a live presentation of the Union Budget from the Lok Sabha Gallery. The Finance Ministry said in a statement that it will offer them a chance to view one of the most significant Parliamentary proceedings of the year.
The students come from a variety of academic disciplines, including commerce, economics, medical education, and vocational courses from various States across India. The students will also visit the Ministry of Finance housed at Kartavya Bhawan-1 and interact with various senior officials to gain an understanding of the functioning of the Ministry, policy formulation processes, and the role of institutions in nation-building.
Later in the evening, Ms Sitharaman will interact with the students and engage in a free-wheeling discussion on the key priorities of the Budget, its vision for India’s future, and its implications for the youth. Students will also share their ideas, perspectives, and aspirations, and offer their views concerning the youth and the nation during the interaction.
This initiative aims to provide exposure to promote greater awareness among students about finance, economics, governance, and democratic processes.
Indian Railways Speeds Up Kavach 4.0 Safety Rollout
Indian Railways today commissioned nearly four hundred seventy-two route kilometres of Kavach Version 4.0 across three sections of its network, marking another significant milestone in strengthening rail safety.
The three newly commissioned sections include the 344 kilometres Vadodara to Virar section on Western Railway, the 35 kilometres Tuglakabad Junction Cabin to Palwal section on Northern Railway, and the 93.3 kilometres Manpur to Sarmatanr section on East Central Railway.
This commissioning marks the highest ever route kilometres of Kavach commissioned on a single day as well as in a month, with more than four hundred seventy-two route kilometres. After this inclusion, Kavach Version 4.0 has been commissioned over a total of over one thousand three hundred route Kilometres across five routes of Indian Railways. The Ministry said, with this commissioning, Indian Railways continues to accelerate the deployment of the indigenous Kavach system to enhance train protection, operational safety, and reliability across high-density routes.
Kavach Version 4.0 is the latest and most advanced iteration of India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection system. It has been developed through continuous technological upgrades based on operational feedback and independent safety assessments. Approved by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), Kavach 4.0 represents a major advancement in railway safety.
Jaishankar Meets His Libyan Counterpart
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar met his Libyan counterpart Eltaher Elbaour in Delhi this afternoon.
They held productive discussions on advancing cooperation in trade, business, infrastructure and energy domains.
Dr Jaishankar appreciated his briefing on the situation in Libya and underscored India’s advocacy of dialogue and diplomacy for enduring peace and stability in the region.
Govt Rejects Claims Of Scanned Copy Of Union Budget 2026-27 Leaked On Messenger App
The government has debunked a message circulating on social media claiming that a scanned copy of the Union Budget 2026-27 has been leaked on a messenger app.
The fact check unit of the Press Information Bureau has informed that the claim is fake. The unit added that one of the images being circulated is not related to the Union Budget 2026-27 but to the Union Budget 2025-26, which has been digitally edited.
It said that the other image is entirely digitally created and does not belong to any official Union Budget document. The government has advised people to rely only on authentic sources and avoid sharing unverified content on social media.
IOA Delegation Visits SAI Headquarters In Delhi
A two-member delegation led by International Olympic Academy (IOA) Director Makis Asimakopoulos, along with Alexandra Karaiskou, visited the Sports Authority of India (SAI) headquarters in New Delhi on Friday to meet senior officials from the Sports Ministry.
The meeting focused on exploring collaboration between the IOA, the Sports Ministry, the Indian Olympic Association, and the newly revived National Olympic Academy. The discussions aimed at strengthening sports education in India through specially curated programmes for Indian coaches, sports science experts and physical education teachers.
During the meeting, the IOA Director said he was impressed by the plan, strategy and vision put in place by the Sports Ministry to play a major role in the Olympic Movement. He added that after reviewing various sports programmes run by the government, the IOA is keen to extend its support to further strengthen Olympic education in the country.
WaveX Invites Applications For India AI Impact Summit 2026 Participation
WaveX, the startup accelerator platform of the Government, has invited applications from startups for participation in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which is scheduled for next month in New Delhi. The India AI Impact Summit will commence on February 16, 2026 and will continue till February 20, 2026.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that the summit will serve as a key national platform for showcasing innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions and fostering collaboration across India’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem. As part of the summit, WaveX will facilitate a dedicated Startup Exhibition Programme, enabling selected startups to showcase their AI-driven products and solutions to a diverse national and international audience.
The MIB Pavilion will also serve as a hub for showcasing cutting-edge and emerging AI technologies in the media and entertainment sector. The Ministry said that it will provide an opportunity for innovators to engage with policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and global stakeholders, fostering collaboration across the creative and technology ecosystem.
