India Revises GDP Series To 2022-23 Base
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released the New Series of Annual and Quarterly Estimates with base year 2022-23. It has replaced the previous series with the base year of 2011-12.
The Ministry added that the Financial Year 2022-23 has been selected as the base year because it represents a recent normal year after COVID. It provides robust and comprehensive data across sectors of the economy, making it an appropriate benchmark for the new series of Annual and Quarterly National Accounts Estimates.
As per the statistics, the overall economic performance in the current financial year is primarily on account of robust Real growth observed at 8.4% in Second Quarter and 7.8% in the Third Quarter.
The Economy has exhibited sustained performance, recording Real GDP growth rates of 7.2% in 2023-24 and 7.1% during 2024-25.
The Ministry said that the manufacturing sector has been the major driver in contributing to the resilient performance of the economy in the three consecutive financial years after rebasing. This sector has attained double-digit growth rates in Financial Years 2023-24 and 2025-26.
Secondary and Tertiary sectors have boosted the performance of the economy by registering above 9% growth rate in the current fiscal year. It added that trade, Hotels, Transport, and Services related to Broadcasting, Storage sector have attained a growth rate of 10.1% at Constant Prices in 2025-26.
On the Consumption side, both the Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) and Gross Fixed Capital Formation have exhibited more than 7% growth rate in 2025-26.
Net National Income
Net National Income (NNI) at current prices for the year 2024-25 stands at ₹271.44 lakh crore as against ₹246.25 lakh crore in 2023-24, showing a growth of 10.2 % during 2024-25 as compared to growth of 11.6 % in 2023-24.
Gross National Disposable Income
Gross National Disposable Income (GNDI) at current prices is estimated at ₹324.52 lakh crore for the year 2024-25, while the estimate for the year 2023-24 stands at ₹294.55 lakh crore, showing a growth of 10.2 % for year 2024-25 as compared to growth of 10.9 % in the year 2023-24.
Savings
Gross Saving during 2024-25 is estimated at ₹111.13 lakh crore against ₹95.17 lakh crore during 2023-24. The major share in Gross Saving during 2024-25 is 62.1% in Household sector and 28.9% in Non-financial corporations. Savings of household sector have increased, thereby strengthening the domestic resource base for investment and capital formation. This indicates improved financial resilience of household sector and greater availability of funds for sustainable economic growth in long run. Savings in physical assets as well as valuables have increased during 2022-23 to 2024-25.
Capital Formation
Gross Capital Formation (GCF) at current prices is estimated at ₹109.25 lakh crore for the year 2024-25 as compared to ₹100.00 lakh crore during 2023-24. The rate of GCF to GDP is 34.3 % during 2024-25 as against 34.5 % in the 2023-24.
The rate of GCF to GDP at constant prices was 34.9 % in 2023-24 and 34.6 % in 2024-25.
Consumption Expenditure
Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) at current prices is estimated at ₹179.71 lakh crore for the year 2024-25 as against ₹163.77 lakh crore in 2023-24. In relation to GDP, the PFCE to GDP ratio at current prices is 56.5% for both 2023-24 and 2024-25. At constant prices, the PFCE is estimated at ₹157.85 lakh crore and ₹167.00 lakh crore, respectively for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25. The corresponding PFCE to GDP ratio for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 are 56.4% and 55.7% respectively.
Government Final Consumption Expenditure (GFCE) at current prices is estimated at ₹33.95 lakh crore for the year 2024-25 as against ₹30.74 lakh crore during 2023-24. At constant prices the estimates of GFCE for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25 stand at ₹29.08 lakh crore and ₹30.96 lakh crore respectively.
Per Capita Estimates
Per Capita Income i.e. Per Capita Net National Income at current prices for the years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 is estimated at ₹1,59,557, ₹1,76,465 and ₹1,92,774, respectively. Per Capita PFCE at current prices, for the years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 is estimated at ₹1,07,910, ₹1,17,356 and ₹1,27,627 respectively.
Modi Government Publishes Consolidated Monthly Accounts Up To January 2026
The Monthly accounts of the Government of India upto January, 2026 has been consolidated and reports published.
Highlights
The Government of India has received ₹27,08,654 crore (79.5% of corresponding RE 2025-26 of Total Receipts) upto January, 2026 comprising ₹20,94,218 crore of Tax Revenue (Net to Centre), ₹5,57,307 crore of Non-Tax Revenue and ₹57,129 crore of Non-Debt Capital Receipts.
₹11,39,767 crore has been transferred to State Governments as Devolution of Share of Taxes by Government of India during this period which is ₹65,588 crore higher than the previous year.
Total Expenditure incurred by Government of India is ₹36,90,061 crore (74.3% of corresponding RE 2025-26), out of which ₹28,47,780 crore is on Revenue Account and ₹8,42,281 crore is on Capital Account.
Out of the Total Revenue Expenditure, ₹9,88,302 crore is on account of Interest Payments and ₹3,54,861 crore is on account of Major Subsidies.
Liquor Policy Case: CBI Moves Delhi HC Challenging Acquittal Of Kejriwal, Others
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has moved the Delhi High Court challenging the acquittal of Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal, party leader Manish Sisodia and others in the corruption case related to the Delhi liquor policy case. The move comes hours after the trial court passed the order.
The trial court acquitted all 23 accused persons in the case, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha. The CBI has said that the trial court’s order has ignored several important aspects of the investigation and that the material has not been adequately considered. The excise policy was framed by the Delhi Government in 2021, which was later withdrawn after allegations of irregularities in implementation. Lieutenant-Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena had ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the policy.
President Murmu Witnesses ‘Vayu Shakti–2026’
President Droupadi Murmu witnessed the ‘Vayu Shakti–2026’ exercise at the Pokhran Firing Range, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Vayu Shakti followed a structured operational storyline, simulating a live, integrated combat theatre. Among the dignitaries present on the occasion were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.
The Vayu Shakti-2026 displayed the courage, dedication and professional excellence of the Indian Air Force. This exercise was conducted with the primary objective of demonstrating the capability to carry out swift and precise strikes in simulated wartime scenarios. Various fighter jets, transport aircraft, and attack helicopters accurately engaged designated targets in this exercise.
The thundering roar of aircraft and precision bombing in the desert presented a vivid display of the Indian Air Force’s modern combat strength and operational readiness.
Advanced fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force, including Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, HAL Tejas and Mirage 2000, carried out precision strikes using air-to-ground guided bombs and missiles, accurately targeting enemy bunkers, runways, and command centres.
Boeing Apache and Boeing Chinook helicopters also performed low-altitude rocket and gun firing drills, casualty evacuation operations, and transportation of equipment to difficult battlefield terrains.
Apart from the display of firepower, ‘Vayu Shakti–2026’ is also a coordinated demonstration of technology, integration, and rapid response capabilities. The exercise showcased readiness for combat operations in both day and night conditions.
It also successfully tested integrated wartime operations such as air superiority, ground support, and logistical support. Vayushakti-2026 reaffirmed IAF’s readiness as a multi-domain force and key pillar of national deterrence.
President Undertakes Sortie In Indigenous ‘Prachand’ Helicopter
President Droupadi Murmu undertook a sortie in the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter PRACHAND at Air Force Station Jaisalmer, Rajasthan Earlier, she undertook sorties in Sukhoi 30 MKI and Rafale in 2023 and 2025, respectively.
The mission was undertaken as a two-aircraft LCH formation. President Droupadi Murmu flew in the lead aircraft with Gp Capt Nayan Shantilal Bahua, while Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and Gp Capt A Mahendra flew as Number 2 in the second aircraft. During the approximately 25-minute mission, they flew over Gadisar Lake and Jaisalmer Fort and attacked a Tank Target.
Later in the visitor’s book, the President expressed her feelings by writing a brief note in which she said, “The sortie in India’s indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter ‘Prachand’ is an enriching experience for me. This sortie has filled me with a renewed sense of pride in the nation’s defence capabilities. I congratulate the Indian Air Force and the entire team of Air Force Station Jaisalmer for successfully organising this sortie”.
Vice President Visiting Keralam
Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will be on a two-day visit to Keralam beginning February 28, 2026.
On the first day of his visits, the Vice-President will grace the Valedictory Function of the Centenary Celebrations of St Berchmans College, Changanassery.
On March 1, VP Radhakrishnan will lay the foundation stone of Chetana Gaanaashram at Devamatha CMI Public School in Thrissur. He will also join the Centenary Celebrations of St Stephen’s High School in Thiruvananthapuram.
6th India–UK Home Affairs Dialogue Held In New Delhi
The 6th India-UK Home Affairs Dialogue (HAD) was held in New Delhi today. The Indian delegation was led by Secretary (Border Management), Dr. Rajendra Kumar and the UK delegation was led by Second Permanent Secretary, Home Office, Simon Ridley. The meeting was also attended by other senior officials of both countries.
During the meeting both sides assessed the ongoing cooperation and identified further areas of mutual interests and synergies for proactive cooperation in counter terrorism and organised crimes including Pro-Khalistani Extremists and the activities of anti-India groups in UK, drug trafficking, migration, criminal justice and law enforcement cooperation, cyber security, among other issues. India’s concerns over the breach of security of Indian dignitaries and Diplomatic missions in UK were also emphasized.
