Piyush Goyal Highlights Rapid Rise Of India’s Startup Ecosystem In Defence And Space Sectors

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the rapid rise of India’s startup ecosystem in the defence and space sectors. The Minister stressed that this transformation is being powered by the country’s MSMEs, which are integrating Indian innovation into global supply chains.

Mr Goyal was addressing participants of the 66th cohort of the National Defence College in New Delhi on the theme ‘Boosting India’s Manufacturing Sector: Role of Government and Policy’.

He emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of speed, skill, and scale as a key driver of India’s success in self-reliance within the defence sector. Mr Goyal also focused on two strategic sectors of semiconductors and clean energy to further drive India’s self-reliance journey.

Water Conservation Essential For Securing Future: Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that development and environment must not be seen as opposing forces but as complementary. He added that water conservation is essential for securing the future of humanity and all stakeholders, including public representatives, should work collaboratively towards this direction.

Mr Birla stated this while addressing the Water Transversality Global Awards and Conclave 2026 in New Delhi.

Mr Birla emphasised the importance of sustainable development and global cooperation, noting that initiatives like the International Water Forum (IWF) are playing a significant role at the global level in addressing water-related challenges.

The Lok Sabha speaker stressed the importance of adopting the mantra of Reduce, Reuse, Recharge, and Recycle for water conservation.

Referring to initiatives such as Catch the Rain and the Jal Jeevan Mission, Mr Birla highlighted the critical role of public participation in ensuring the success of such campaigns. He further stated that renewable energy and green initiatives are strengthening India’s climate commitments.

Mr Birla observed that India’s progress in solar energy, wind energy, and green hydrogen is remarkable and is helping the country move towards sustainable development.

NCB Dismantles International Drug Trafficking Network Operating Across Nepal, India, Sri Lanka

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled an international drug trafficking network operating across Nepal, India and Sri Lanka.

A coordinated operation by the NCB Chennai Zonal Unit, along with the Hyderabad Zonal Unit, led to the seizure of over 77 kilograms of hashish oil and 2 kilograms of charas.

A fishing boat used to transport the contraband was also recovered. In a statement, the NCB said five persons, including a Sri Lankan refugee, have been arrested so far.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the charas and hashish oil were smuggled into India from Kathmandu in Nepal through the Sonauli Indo-Nepal border.

Around 78 kilograms of hashish oil had already been delivered by the arrested persons at Thoothukudi for onward trafficking to Sri Lanka by sea route. NCB’s Chennai Unit flung into action and seized Hashish Oil from them.

DGCA Grants Aerodrome License For Noida International Airport At Jewar

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted the Aerodrome License to Yamuna International Airport Private Limited for the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar of Uttar Pradesh. The airport has been licensed under the Public Use category for all-weather operations.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed that the airport is being developed in four phases along with a multi-modal cargo hub. In the first phase, with one runway and one terminal, the airport will have the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually.

Upon completion of all phases, the Noida International Airport will be capable of handling up to 70 million passengers per year.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu congratulated the Uttar Pradesh government, stating that the development of Noida International Airport is a major step toward strengthening aviation connectivity for the National Capital Region and Western Uttar Pradesh.

He highlighted that the world-class airport will boost regional economic growth, tourism, and investment while offering a seamless passenger experience and help ease congestion at existing airports in the region.

The Ministry said that India is rapidly expanding its aviation network through a balanced approach of developing new greenfield airports while upgrading existing brownfield airports and regional airstrips, supported by initiatives such as the UDAN scheme.

It added that the country’s long-term roadmap aims to develop over 400 airports by 2047, further strengthening connectivity, economic growth and national integration.

Jaishankar Meets Leaders Of Various Countries

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar met leaders of various countries on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi.

Dr Jaishankar held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Mauritius, Kenya, Malta, Seychelles and Rwanda.

In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar informed that during his meeting with Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Vijitha Herath, the two leaders held a warm discussion on their bilateral ties and the regional situation. He asserted that Vision MAHASAGAR and Neighbourhood First continue to guide their endeavours.

During his interaction with Bhutanese counterpart, Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen their unique partnership.

On his meeting with Mauritian Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ritish Ramful, Dr Jaishankar said they emphasised their commitment to further enhanced strategic partnership.

With his counterpart from Kenya Musalia W Mudavadi, the External Affairs Minister discussed realising the full potential of their ties.

In his interaction with Malta’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ian Borg, Dr Jaishankar appreciated his insights on the maritime industry.

With Seychelles’ Foreign Minister Barry Faure, the External Affairs Minister discussed the follow-up to the recent Presidential visit.

Dr. Jaishankar also held talks with his Rwandan counterpart, Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, last evening. He said their conversation focused on taking forward our economic and digital cooperation.

Amit Shah Attends CISF Raising Day, Launches Development Projects Worth Over Rs 3700 Crore In Odisha

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah attended the 57th Raising Day ceremony of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the Chief Guest in Mundali, Odisha.

The Union Home Minister also laid the foundation stone for three residential complexes (Kamrup, Nashik and Sehore) of the CISF to be built at a cost of ₹890 crore, and inaugurated two residential complexes (Rajarhat and Delhi). On this occasion, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Home Secretary, the Director General of CISF, and several other distinguished dignitaries were present.

Later, Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over 3,770 crore rupees in Odisha.

These include development initiatives of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) as well as various projects of the state government.

Mr Shah also inaugurated Sulphuric Acid Plant-III at Paradip unit of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) Limited.

He also addressed a Cooperative Development Seminar in Bhubaneswar. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi were among those present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Shah said, the projects launched during the day mark an important step in the development of Odisha. He said the sulphuric acid plant at Paradip will help strengthen domestic production and contribute to making the country self-reliant in the chemical.

He added that in the coming years, organisations such as IFFCO and KRIBHCO would work together to help make India self-sufficient in sulphuric acid production.

The Home Minister also laid the foundation stone for a campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Odisha and inaugurated its temporary campus.

ECI Reviews Poll Preparedness For Forthcoming Assembly Elections In Kerala

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi held a detailed and comprehensive review of the poll preparedness for the forthcoming Kerala Legislative Assembly Elections in Kochi.

During the review visit, the Commission interacted with the representatives of recognized national political parties namely Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, and the recognised state political parties, namely, Communist Party of India, Indian Union Muslim League, Kerala Congress, Kerala Congress (M) and Revolutionary Socialist Party and sought their suggestions.

Most of the political parties appreciated the Election Commission of India for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the Special Intensive Revision of the Electoral Rolls in Kerala, the ECI said in a statement, adding that some parties also appreciated the good work done by the BLOs in the conduct of SIR.

Some of the political parties urged the Commission to keep in mind the upcoming local festivals while finalising the dates of elections, and to make special arrangements for facilitating the elderly voters and PwD voters, the ECI said.

Political parties urged the Commission to take stringent measures to curb the use of money power and distribution of liquor/freebies during elections.

Some of the parties raised concerns over the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and synthetically generated content in vitiating the electoral atmosphere.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar reiterated that SIR has been conducted in the most transparent manner. He said that the objective of SIR is to ensure that no eligible elector is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Rolls. He added that Forms 6/7/8 can still be filed for any inclusions/deletions/changes. He also underlined that appeals can be filed with the DM/CEO as per RP Act 1950.

Later, the Commission held a detailed review with the Heads/Nodal Officers of Enforcement Agencies, IGs, DIGs, DEOs, SPs on every aspect of election planning, EVM management, logistics, training of election staff, seizures, law and order, voter awareness and outreach activities.

The Commission directed all Heads/Nodal Officers of Enforcement Agencies to act with complete impartiality and firmly clamp down on all inducement related activities.

The Commission also directed all DEOs to ensure that Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs), including ramps, wheelchairs and drinking water, are made available at all polling stations for the comfort of voters.
