PM Modi to visit Bihar, West Bengal to boost infrastructure

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar and West Bengal on July 18 to inaugurate, lay foundation stones, and dedicate multiple development projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore in Bihar and over Rs 5,000 crore in West Bengal.

PM’s Bihar Visit

At around 11:30 AM, the Prime Minister will arrive in Motihari, Bihar, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects spanning sectors such as Rail, Road, Rural Development, Fisheries, Electronics, and Information Technology. He will also address a public gathering.

Among the key rail projects, PM Modi will dedicate automatic signaling between the Samastipur-Bachhwara rail line to improve train operations. He will inaugurate the doubling of the Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur rail lines, worth over Rs 580 crore, enhancing capacity and reducing delays. 

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for several rail initiatives, including the development of Vande Bharat train maintenance infrastructure at Patliputra, automatic signaling on the Bhatni-Chhapra Gramin rail line (114 km), and traction system upgrades to allow higher speeds and energy efficiency. The Rs 4,080 crore Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj rail line doubling project will further boost connectivity in North Bihar. 

On the road infrastructure front, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the 4-laning of the Ara bypass of NH-319, connecting Ara-Mohania NH-319 and Patna-Buxar NH-922, which will reduce travel time and improve connectivity. He will inaugurate the 4-lane Parariya to Mohania section of NH-319, worth over Rs 820 crore, enhancing freight and passenger movement. Additionally, a 2-lane road with paved shoulder from Sarwan to Chakai of NH-333C will improve connectivity between Bihar and Jharkhand.

In the technology sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate new Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) facilities at Darbhanga and Patna. These will promote IT/ITES/ESDM industries, startups, innovation, and product development.

PM Modi will also inaugurate fisheries development projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), launching modern infrastructure like fish hatcheries, biofloc units, ornamental fish farming, integrated aquaculture units, and fish feed mills. These initiatives aim to generate employment, boost fish production, and promote rural socio-economic development.  

In a major connectivity boost, the Prime Minister will flag off four new Amrit Bharat trains connecting Patna, Motihari, Darbhanga, and Malda Town to key destinations, enhancing regional connectivity.

Further, he will release Rs 400 crore to around 61,500 Self-Help Groups under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojna-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), focusing on women-led development. The Prime Minister will hand over keys to beneficiaries under the Griha Pravesh initiative and release Rs 160 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin beneficiaries.

 

PM’s West Bengal Visit

At around 3 PM, PM Modi will visit Durgapur, West Bengal, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple projects in the Oil and Gas, Power, Road, and Rail sectors.

He will lay the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd’s (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia districts worth about Rs 1,950 crore. This project will provide PNG connections to households, commercial and industrial customers, CNG at retail outlets, and generate employment.  

The Prime Minister will dedicate the 132 km Durgapur to Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, part of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) Project. This Rs 1,190 crore pipeline passes through Purba Bardhman, Hooghly, and Nadia districts, providing natural gas to lakhs of households and creating jobs.  

PM Modi will also inaugurate the Retrofitting Pollution Control System-Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) of the Durgapur Steel and Raghunathpur Thermal Power Stations of Damodar Valley Corporation, worth Rs 1,457 crore, supporting cleaner energy and employment.

In rail infrastructure, the doubling of the Purulia – Kotshila Rail Line (36 km), worth over Rs 390 crore, will improve connectivity between industrial hubs and reduce travel time.  

The Prime Minister will inaugurate two Road Over Bridges (ROBs) under the Setu Bharatam Programme at Topsi and Pandabeshwar in Paschim Bardhaman, worth over Rs 380 crore. These bridges will enhance connectivity and improve safety by preventing accidents at railway level crossings.
